Strike against non-implementation of package

20 Feb 2011
ISLAMABAD: After no breakthrough on deadlock between the teachers and FDE and Ministry of Education on notification of teachers’ package implementation, the protesting teachers on Saturday finally decided to extend their protest to roads of federal capital from Monday.

Federal Government Teachers’ Association (FGTA) executive council took this decision after the deadlock persisted for the fourth day of the strike by over 800 teachers working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in over 400 educational institutions.

The faculty members of various FDE educational institutes vowed to continue their protests and strikes under the banner of FGTA until the issuance of implementation notification of teachers’ incentive package. The academic activities remained suspended on fourth consecutive day on Saturday. The teachers came to their respective campuses and after marking the attendance they went on strike. The students spend their time while gossiping and later came on the roads in various localities of Islamabad and blocked the roads in protest. Daily Times found that no classes took place in all major schools working under FDE including Federal Government Secondary schools of girls and boys located in F-6, F-7, F-8, F-10, I-9, I-10, G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10, G-11 and suburbs of Islamabad including Nilor, Tarnol, Bhara Kahu and Sihala, as the teachers boycotted the classes and observed complete strike to press the government for acceptance of their demands.
